Enter the Void

"Enter the Void" Artists: Krupleng x Ham Tanid "Enter the Void" is a collaborative EP by two close friends, Krittanon Raknoon (Krupleng) and Tanid Sintaratana (Ham). This project is an extension of their previous collaboration with Smmuti Studio, which aimed to compile songs from a group of friends. Previously, Krupleng and Ham created the song "Bot Sassadee," an adaptation from a live performance by the Manora Kriangdech Nuanrahong group from Phatthalung Province. After completing this song, they decided to create additional pieces, incorporating two compositions by Krupleng from his Master's degree concert, "Nard Rishi" and "Kas Kru," and one by Ham, "Phi Fa." Ham's piece blends a live performance of molam music from the Lao Song community in Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi Province. Track and Performance Descriptions: 1. Kas Kru Kas Kru is a poetic Manora chant without accompanying dance. The term "Kas" has dual meanings: a prayer or a declaration of the teacher's virtues. This piece recounts the origins and significance of Manora, the virtues of the teachers, and expresses respect and gratitude towards them. 2. Bot Sasadee This chant is an invocation of the teachers' spirits and sacred entities, calling them to the ceremony for the Manora's blessing, protection from illness, and removal of negative influences. The emphasis on inviting many sacred entities stems from the belief that any ritual omissions or mistakes by the ritual leader could lead to physical and mental disturbances. The Sassadee chant is performed after the offering ceremony to seek help from the sacred entities in removing negative influences. 3. Nard Rishi "Nard" refers to a slow, measured walk, much like the dignified gait of a rishi (sage). This instrumental piece with a slow tempo is used to change the atmosphere, such as transitioning from a fast-paced scene to a slower, ritualistic one. 4. Phi Fa "Phi Fa" is a musical piece reconstructed from a traditional molam song performed by the Lao Song people in Khao Yoi, Phetchaburi. It aims to connect personal spiritual experiences with the cultural heritage of the Lao Song community's spirit worship practices. The intricate drum rhythms and synthesizer noise, reminiscent of floating ghosts, represent the joy and spiritual connection that are integral to Thai culture and subculture.
