DIALOGUE Ask Yourself to Buildings Forests Mountains Sea Sky

“DIALOGUE” Ask Yourself to Buildings, Rivers, Boats, Forests, Mountains, Sea, and Sky This exhibition explores what we are deeply connected to through buildings, rivers, fishing boats, trees, mountains, the sea, and the sky—each element contributing to an exploration of our identities and the city we live in. It serves as a reminder of the ties of culture through stories, history, places, and environments that shape who we are. This is presented through dialogues from five groups, each with their own expertise and approach to presentation techniques but united by an interest in communicating similar themes. These include artists, designers, filmmakers, writers, specialists, and local wisdom keepers, all of whom actively engage with their communities. Together, they present stories of participation that encourage diverse perspectives within Narathiwat province. The unique identities of each group open up topics of interest linked to the local environment, creating new discussions that invite everyone to see Narathiwat from fresh viewpoints. These dialogues lead to the development of the capacities of both individuals and communities, bound by a shared foundation of sustainable cultural capital. They also extend to different interpretations and uses, each reflecting their own communication strengths toward community and city engagement in distinctive ways. Motion pictures that capture local stories and history are shared through 8 mm film techniques by the Rolling Wild group in collaboration with Satu #Padu Collaborative, who also organize joint activities. The Bangnara Delta group tells the story of the city through street photo events, evoking personal memories of Narathiwat by tracing individual recollections. Meanwhile, Muslimah Collective shares participatory works with the Bankuyi community, building on cultural engagement. Bankuyi Collaborative reinterprets the notion of motherhood through community symbols like the “Yue Ree” flower, leading to products co-created by the community. The Buga Marayu group works alongside local wisdom keepers, artists, and designers under the name Sarn Nara, reinterpreting local fishing boat (kolek boat) patterns into integrated designs—extending the value of local cultural heritage. The exhibition, Dialogue: Exploring Identity through Buildings, Rivers, Boats, Trees, Mountains, Sea, and Sky, plays a role in driving and developing communities. It extends local wisdom into cultural capital that evokes remembrance and pushes beyond mere storytelling to present new images of Narathiwat—through groups of artists who represent and propel the city toward sustainable growth.
